Extreme Heat Claims 18 Lives in Japan

 

Japan’s Fire and Disaster Management Agency reported that 18 people died and 8,603 were hospitalized due to heat stroke between June 16–22. The elderly accounted for 61.8% of cases. Tokyo, Aichi, and Saitama saw the highest hospitalizations. On June 17, temperatures exceeded 35°C at 65 locations. Experts warn the heat will continue through late June.
