147 endangered Yucatan monkeys died and many others were injured after falling from trees last week in Mexico’s Chiapas and Tabasco states due to temperatures exceeding 45 degrees and lack of water. Environmental organizations and authorities cooperated with local residents and brought water and fruit to the area.
Some biologists say the problem has been ongoing since May 5 and got worse this past weekend.
Temperatures reaching up to 50 degrees in some states also affected birds and reptiles, according to reports.
