fair fisherman releases back giant tunas for sustainable fishing

Professional fisherman Savaş Dursun kissed and set free an 80-kilogram tuna he caught off the coast of Türkiye’s İzmir, although the fish was prohibited to catch. Stating that he did not need the fish, Dursun said that he has a sustainable fishing approach.

“There are number-based limits on some fish, while there are some height-based limits on others. I usually release more than I need, even if I did not surpass the limits. We were very crowded on the boat that day. We were allowed to catch one tuna per person. We could have caught like 10 tuna in total, but that would have been unnecessary. We kept one or two of them because we didn’t have to worry about storing them in the closet or eating them during the winter,” Dursun said.
