farmers protest over nitrogen policy in netherlands

Farmers in the Netherlands continue demonstrations against the government’s plan to reduce nitrogen emissions. Vehicles blocked several highways in Apeldoorn and Hengelo. Protestors dumped debris on roads, set hay bales on fire. Local officials called for an end to the road blockade, citing that the actions endanger road safety for drivers.

The Dutch Federation of Agriculture and Horticulture (LTO) has stated that it will not participate in any negotiations if the government abides by its commitment to cut nitrogen emissions by half by 2030.
