A fire broke out in the engine room of a ferry carrying passengers from Italy’s Lampedusa Island to Porto Empedocle in Sicily. The Italy coast guard initiated an evacuation process and rescued a total of 177 people, including 27 crew members. It was stated that there were 83 immigrants sent from Lampedusa among the passengers.
Lampedusa is known as the destination of many migrants who manage to cross the Mediterranean by boat before being sent to reception centers in different parts of the country.
