Fire at Africa’s Largest Oil Refinery Quickly Contained

A fire erupted at the Dangote Oil Refinery in Lagos, Nigeria, the largest in Africa. The blaze broke out at the wastewater treatment plant. Dangote Industries Limited spokesperson Anthony Chiejina confirmed the incident, stating, “We quickly brought under control a small-scale fire incident that occurred in our wastewater treatment plant. Since the refinery is in operation, there is no alarm situation and there were no injuries to all our personnel on duty.”

The $19 billion refinery, built by Aliko Dangote, one of Africa’s wealthiest businessmen, began producing diesel and aviation fuel on January 12 and has the capacity to process 650,000 barrels of crude oil per day.
