fire at apartment building in Moscow city center

A fire broke out in a 9-storey apartment building last night in Moscow, Russia. About 400 people were evacuated due to the fire on Leninsky Prospekt, a major street southwest of the city center, the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations said. According to eyewitnesses, the fire started on the building’s roof and spread to individual apartments.

The fire was extinguished in about 3 hours with the support of 150 firefighters and a helicopter. The Russian Ministry of Transport announced that the fire had caused transportation disruptions in the city.
