Fire at Brazilian Forest Brought Under Control

The fire that started two days ago in the National Forest in the capital Brasilia was largely brought under control yesterday evening. Authorities said that about 20 percent of the 5,600-hectare forest area was reduced to ashes.

“We have extinguished three of the four fires. We hope that the fire will be under control by the end of the day. We are sure that this is an environmental crime, but we have not yet confirmed whether it was intentional,” said Fabio dos Santos Miranda, who is responsible for the forest’s management, adding that three suspects were seen in the area.
