Fire Still Burning on Greek Oil Tanker Attacked in Red Sea

The European Union (EU) reports that a fire continues to burn on the Greek-flagged oil tanker Sounion, which was attacked by Houthi forces in the Red Sea on August 23. Despite the ongoing blaze, there are no signs of an oil leak from the vessel, which is carrying 150,000 tons of crude oil and poses a significant environmental risk. The Sounion, which lost engine power after a prior attack on August 21, is the third ship operated by Greece-based Delta Tankers targeted by Houthis this month. The ship’s crew was rescued by EU forces and later transferred to Djibouti.
