flash floods hit Jordan’s Petra, prompting evacuations

Southern Jordan experienced torrential rain on Monday as a result of heavy rains, forcing hundreds of tourists to evacuate the ancient city of Petra. Nadia Masalha, Secretary General of the Ministry of Works, stated that the ministry was able to rescue many tourists who had become stranded in the Petra region, and that the roads had been cleared of rocks swept away by strong torrents.

The ministry urged citizens to remain cautious when driving in bad weather and on roads.
