flash floods kill 57 in India and Bangladesh

Floods caused by heavy rains killed 57 people in Bangladesh’s Sylhet and India’s Assam state. “So far, nearly two million people have been stranded by the floods,” said Mosharraf Hossain, an official for the Sylhet region, stating that at least 100 villages in Zakiganj have been flooded.

Authorities in the Indian state of Assam also reported that more than 850 thousand people in approximately 3,200 villages were affected by the flood and the agricultural lands in the region were damaged by flooding. About 90,000 people were moved to state-run relief shelters as river water levels rose in the region and large tracts of land were flooded.
