Floods Kill 40 in India’s Jammu and Kashmir

At least 40 people, including two soldiers, have died and over 120 were injured in floods triggered by heavy rains in the village of Chashoti, Kishtwar district, Jammu and Kashmir, India. Authorities said more than 220 remain missing, while 120 have been rescued in operations involving disaster response teams, the army, police, and local volunteers. Officials reported that some food aid workers were swept away by the current. The injured are in critical condition, and the death toll may rise.

India’s government said it is closely monitoring the situation. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Draupadi Murmu expressed condolences, with Modi pledging swift aid to all affected.
