Floods Kill 5 in Southern India

Cyclone Michaung is expected to hit southern India within 24 hours, causing heavy rains and flooding in Tamil Nadu. Five people died due to flood-related incidents in Chennai, where the airport ceased operations and flooded streets swept away parked vehicles. Rescue teams used boats to help trapped individuals, including one daring rescue involving a collapsed road and a rope. Education was suspended for two days in four Tamil Nadu districts, while Andhra Pradesh evacuated 7,000 people from coastal areas, with plans for an additional 28,000 evacuations depending on the hurricane’s impact. Michaung is forecasted to make landfall along the Andhra Pradesh coast at a speed of 110 kilometers per hour.
