forest fire in Northern Cyprus approaches UAV base

A forest fire sweeps through the Kantara region of the Iskele district of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC). The fire, which grew with the effect of the wind, reached the borders of the Geçitkale region, where the unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) base is located. In a statement, Geçitkale Mayor Hasan Öztaş said, “Many soldiers, civil defense personnel and the public are waiting helplessly. We keep work vehicles and personnel ready. More aircraft are needed.” Officials stated that approximately 5,000 acres of land has been burned so far.

While a general expedition was started within the island to extinguish the fire, which grew with the effect of the wind, two people were arrested in connection with the fire.
