Forest Fire in Northern Portugal Burns 8,000 Hectares, 17 Injured

A forest fire that started on Saturday in Trancoso, northern Portugal, has burned 8,000 hectares of land, mostly chestnut orchards, olive groves, and vineyards. Firefighters are working tirelessly to contain the blaze, with 699 firefighters, 221 vehicles, and six helicopters involved. The fire has injured 17 people, including six firefighters. The country has already seen 52,000 hectares burned this year, representing 0.6% of Portugal’s total area.
