A forest fire that erupted yesterday in the village of Varnava and the town of Megara near Athens has quickly spread toward the outskirts of the Greek capital, fueled by strong winds and hot weather. Greece, which has been battling wildfires since May, is currently facing 40 active fires, with seven still burning out of control. The blaze has prompted the evacuation of several hospitals, towns, and villages, with trees, homes, and vehicles engulfed in flames. Fire Department Spokesperson Vassilis Vathrakogiannis confirmed the fire’s advance towards Mount Penteli, leading to the evacuation of at least three hospitals in the area.
