Forest Fire spreads to Portugal’s Algarve

The ongoing forest fires burned more than 3,000 hectares of area in Leiria amid extreme heat wave in Portugal. The fire in Almancil, located in the Algarve region, spread to the famous Quinta do Lago resort. Approaching the villas, the fire burned the palm trees. In Palmela, the flames advanced to the vicinity of the settlements. The highway connecting Lisbon to Porto was also closed to traffic due to another fire that broke out further north. Around 900 firefighters are trying to extinguish 3 active fires in Leiria alone, while extinguishing efforts continue with 2,841 firefighters and 860 vehicles across Portugal.
