The forest fire that started near the town of Laguna Verde in Valparaiso, Chile, yesterday is still burning. While the fire 40 hectares of maquis and pine groves to ash, the flames spread quickly due to the wind’s effect and reached residential areas. The city of Valparaiso has issued a red alert for the area, and it has been reported that the alert will remain in effect until the fire is brought under control.
According to the National Emergency Office of Chile, the fire has so far caused damage to 35 homes. The authorities have announced that air support, 200 firefighters, 47 fire trucks, 7 helicopters, and 4 planes are involved in the extinguishing efforts against the forest fire, which has yet to be brought under control.
