Forest Fires in Argentina Force Evacuations

A forest fire has broken out in Argentina’s Cordoba province, triggered by a heatwave. The flames rapidly approached residential areas in Villa Carlos Paz, leading to the evacuation of at least 600 people. Government resources, including 960 firefighters, 8 firefighting planes, and 2 helicopters, were deployed to combat the blaze. The thick smoke made breathing difficult, and many animals lost their lives. A suspect was detained on suspicion of arson, claiming the fire started accidentally while lighting a campfire. The challenging conditions, with high temperatures, low humidity, and strong winds, are hampering firefighting efforts.
