Forest Fires in Spain Kill One

A forest fire near Madrid’s Tres Cantos municipality has killed one person and burned over a thousand hectares. The fire spread to residential areas, prompting evacuations. A man died from severe burns, and 180 people were evacuated. Emergency crews managed to bring the fire under control overnight.

In northwestern Spain, fires near the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Las Medulas forced evacuations. Over 850 people were evacuated in Zamora, where one of the largest fires has been burning since Saturday. The ongoing heatwave, with temperatures exceeding 35°C, has fueled more than 30 fires across Spain, with temperatures expected to reach 44°C in some areas.
