Forest fires continue to rage in southern Albania, near the Greek border, due to a recent heatwave. The Albanian army is assisting firefighting brigades in the villages of Grapsh and Kardhikaq, working to prevent the flames from reaching residential areas.
In response to Albania’s request for help, the European Union has dispatched four firefighting planes through the EU Civil Protection Mechanism. EU Commissioner for Crisis Management and Humanitarian Aid, Janez Lenarcic, emphasized the cross-border nature of forest fires and affirmed the EU’s readiness to provide further assistance if needed.
