Former Pakistani PM Shahbaz Sharif Takes Office Again

Shahbaz Sharif, who was re-elected as prime minister in the vote held in the National Assembly in Pakistan, officially took office today by taking the oath at a ceremony held in the presence of President Arif Alvi at the Presidential Office in Islamabad.

In the general election on February 8, independent candidates supported by the imprisoned former Prime Minister Imran Khan became the most seat-winning party by winning 92 seats, and the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz led by Sharif came in second in the election by winning 79 seats. All parties failed to reach the required number of 134 seats to form the government, and a coalition government was formed by PML-N and the Pakistan People’s Party.
