Former Spanish King Juan Carlos is visiting Spain after he left amid a scandal of alleged corruption investigations after nearly 2 years of exile. Carlos has left Spain in August 2020 after corruption allegations against him and settled in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Spanish Royal Family made a statement that Carlos had arrived in the city of Vigo by plane, and that Carlos would spend 5 days in Spain and then return to his permanent residence in Abu Dhabi. In the statement, Carlos will go to the northern town of Sanxenxo during his visit to the country, stay at his close friend’s house, and finally come to the capital Madrid on Monday, May 23, and meet with his son King VI at La Zarzuela Palace. He will reportedly meet with Felipe and his family.
The return of the former king to the country was met with reaction from the Spanish government. Spanish Economy Minister Nadia Calvino stated that Juan Carlos’s return to Spain was disturbing and stated that Carlos should make a statement to the Spanish people.
