France Elections: Protests at Sorbonne University

Marine Le Pen, the leader of the far-right National Unity Party (RN), and President Emmanuel Macron’s qualification for the second round of the French presidential election were both protested at the Sorbonne University. Students filled the classrooms, chanting “Neither Macron nor Le Pen, no to the extreme right,” after writing “Fascism is not an option” on the university’s walls. The protest that began at noon yesterday still continues, and the students spent the night at the university building.

The university administration announced that classes would continue online until Saturday, while students stated that they would remain at the university until the election’s second round.

The second round of elections will be held on April 24.
