France may face potato shortage amid drought

France may face a potato shortage this year as Europe has been going through an exceptional drought in the summer. According to the French National Union of Potato Producers, nearly 1.5 million tons of potatoes may be lost on French soil this year, resulting in a loss of approximately €250 million.

France was Europe’s third-largest producer of potatoes in 2020, accounting for 15.7 percent of EU output, according to EuroStat data.
