The French parliament approved an aid package of 230 million euros to provide aid to millions of French households heating with wood during. Households eligible for the aid will receive between 50 and 200 euros depending on their income, household composition, and type of firewood used.
Wood prices have increased by 80 percent in the last three years and have increased by 30 percent in 2022 as three to four million French people switch to logs or wood pellets to heat their homes.
According to government estimates, around 2.6 million households are eligible to receive government subsidies. The first aid checks will be paid from mid-February 2023, according to the Ministry of the Economy.
