freight train derails, burns in Chile

In the Chilean state of Victoria, a freight train derailed in the Southern Macrozone region, where a state of emergency was declared due to conflicts with indigenous people. Authorities believe the attack was carried out by Mapuche Indians, who have been at odds with the state government recently. The attackers set fire to the derailed train’s four wagons and locomotive. The train was said to be carrying cellulose for papermaking in the La Araucania region. Regional officials stated that the incident should be classified as a terrorist act, that no group has claimed responsibility for the attack yet, and that train services in the region have been suspended.
