Fresh Covid-19 cases emerged in China’s Beijing, residents rushed to markets

After the new Covid-19 cases detected in Beijing, the capital of China, the people flocked to the markets to stock up on food. Panicked citizens were seen filling supermarkets and purchasing basic food products such as rice, oil, meat, and flour in photos and images shared on social media. Long queues formed in front of the cash registers as the product shelves emptied in many supermarkets. In order to meet the high demand, the working hours of the supermarkets in the capital were extended and the number of personnel was increased.

According to local sources, 47 cases of Covid-19 were detected in Beijing in the last two days, 26 of them were located in the Chaoyang district. A total of 1,230 people were identified as close contacts and quarantined.

In Shanghai, 51 people died yesterday due to Covid-19, and the National Health Commission of China reported 2,472 locally sourced symptomatic and 16,983 asymptomatic cases. Since February 26, 138 people have died in the city.
