The second Friday prayer after the fall of the Assad regime was held at the historic Umayyad Mosque in Damascus, Syria. Worshippers filled the mosque’s courtyard and interior, offering prayers and chanting takbir in celebration of newfound freedom.
A symbol of Damascus, the Umayyad Mosque, inaugurated in 714, holds religious significance. According to Islamic tradition, it is believed to be the site where Jesus will descend before the Day of Judgment to unite Muslims.
