Fuego Volcano in Guatemala Erupts

The 3,763-meter-high Fuego Volcano has erupted, which is located approximately 16 kilometers west of Antigua, one of the famous and touristic cities of the Central American country Guatemala. The National Institute of Volcanology of Guatemala (Insivumeh) reported that the lava flowing from the volcano has already covered a distance of 6 kilometers. The Institute advised the National Coordination for Disaster Prevention (Conred) to increase the alert level and take necessary precautions, especially in settlements close to the Ceniza, Taniluya and Trinidad canyons. Civil Defense Agency Spokesperson David de Leon said that they are monitoring the activity development of the volcano, but they do not need to evacuate in the region yet.
