A funeral ceremony for Ismail Haniyeh, the head of Hamas’s political bureau, was held at Tahran University in Iran’s Tehran, where he was assassinated during the swearing-in ceremony for Iran’s new president yesterday morning. Numerous Iranians performed funeral prayers under the leadership of the country’s supreme leader, Ali Khamanei.
“Israel is making a strategic mistake by targeting the resistance leaders, thinking that killing our martyrs will affect our movement. It is our duty to react at the right place and at the right time, and the Zionist regime should know that it will pay a heavy price for this,” said the Speaker of the Iranian Parliament, Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, in his speech before the funeral.
“We will continue the slogan of Ismail Haniyeh forever. We do not recognize the Zionist regime. We seek to eradicate this regime from Palestine with our slogans and actions. We promise to return the displaced Palestinian people to the Palestinian lands and establish a Palestinian state,” said Khalil al-Hayya, Hamas’ deputy leader, in his speech at the funeral.
Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu, who claimed responsibility for the attack on Beirut while addressing his nation yesterday, remained silent about the killing of the Hamas official.
