Taysir Ubeyd, 37, who used to live in Beit Lahya in northern Gaza but was displaced 9 times due to the attacks that started on October 7, 2023, built an underground tent in Deir al-Balah to protect his family of 10 from Israeli attacks.
“I dug 1 meter 80 centimeters deep and set up the first tent. I put the mattress and clothes in it, arranged them and we started living in it. I’m currently preparing the second tent for my children. I used primitive tools to dig the hole. If I had more opportunities, I wouldn’t have dug the soil and put the nylon and worn-out fabric that covers the tent on top. I love my family and children very much. I will do my best to save them from the hardship and pain they have witnessed,” Ubeyd said. He also stated that the underground tent is warmer than normal tents and is not affected by the wind.
