Gazans Celebrate Ceasefire Agreement

Gazans took to the streets with Palestinian flags in their hands after Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani officially announced that a prisoner exchange and ceasefire agreement had been reached between Israel and Hamas in the Gaza Strip yesterday.

The ceasefire agreement, which includes a prisoner exchange agreement in the Gaza Strip, is expected to be put to a vote in the Israeli parliament today and will be in force as of January 19.

Al-Thani stated that the ceasefire was a “beginning” and that now mediators and the international community must work to achieve lasting peace.

US President Joe Biden stated that the agreement was the result of the US’s “stubborn and meticulous” diplomacy and that the outlines of the ceasefire agreement were laid out in May of last year. Meanwhile, Trump said that the agreement was a result of his victory in the presidential election in November, which has sent a signal of peace to the world.
