Gaza’s Children Return to Classrooms Amid Rubble and Ruins

Children in Gaza have returned to school after two years of Israeli bombardment, studying in buildings reduced to rubble. With shattered windows, broken doors, and no desks, students sit on the floor as teachers struggle to continue lessons with limited materials.

UNRWA spokesperson Adnan Abu Hasna said around 30,000 students have resumed classes in agency-run schools, while most public schools remain closed. Before the war, 300,000 children attended Gaza’s public schools.

According to the Palestinian Education Ministry, 674,000 students were deprived of schooling since October 2023, with 17,175 students and 928 teachers killed, and hundreds of schools destroyed or damaged.
