German Government Spokesperson Steffen Hebestreit announced that Berlin will send Leopard 2 main battle tanks to Ukraine and will allow other countries that want to send more.
Noting that German Chancellor Olaf Scholz announced the decision at today’s Cabinet meeting, Hebestreit said: “This is the result of intensive consultations with Germany’s European and international partners. The decision follows our well-known aim to support Ukraine to the best of our ability.”
Germany will quickly supply the first squadron of 14 Leopard 2 A6 tanks from its inventory, and the support package will include soldier training as well as logistics, munitions, and system maintenance services.
