Giant panda Lin Hui dies at age 21 in Thailand

A 21-year-old female panda named Lin Hui, sent to Thailand by China in 2003, died at Chiang Mai Zoo, six months before her return to China. Lin Hui became ill unexpectedly last Tuesday, and since then, a cooperative research treatment with Chinese vets has been conducted, but despite all efforts, the giant panda could not be saved.

Lin Hui died of natural causes, said Chiang Mai Zoo vet Thewarat Vejmanus. According to Thewarat, pandas have an average lifespan of 15–20 years, and Lin Hui has a life expectancy of 21 years and 7 months.
