The Global Sumud Flotilla, launched to break Israel’s blockade of Gaza and deliver humanitarian aid, is advancing southeast of Malta while preparing for a possible Israeli intervention with nightly meetings and non-violent drills. More ships from Italy are expected to join soon.
Swedish activist Greta Thunberg stepped down from the flotilla’s leadership committee but said she would remain an organizer and participant. Earlier this year, Israeli forces intercepted two aid ships — the Madleen in June and the Hanzala later that month — in international waters.
