Global Warming Peaked in 2024, Says CS3 Report

The recently published 2024 Climate Change Report of the Copernicus Climate Change Service (C3S) affiliated with the European Union (EU) showed that 2024 was the hottest year ever seen globally since statistics were kept in the area in 1850 and has become the first year to exceed the pre-industrial average of 1850-1900 by 1.5 degrees.

C3S Director Carlo Buontempo said in a statement regarding the latest published data that rapid and decisive actions could change the course of climate change in the future.

“We are currently on the verge of exceeding the 1.5-degree temperature increase level defined in the Paris Agreement. The average of the last two years is already above this level,” said Samantha Burgess, Director of Climate Strategies at the European Center for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts.
