Greece Approves 13-Hour Workday Bill Despite Protests

The Greek Parliament has passed a controversial bill allowing private-sector employees to work up to 13 hours per day. The government says the measure will boost labor flexibility and address worker shortages, but unions have condemned it as exploitative.

The regulation, limited to three days per month and 37 days per year, maintains the EU’s 48-hour weekly cap. Workers can refuse overtime without dismissal, while those opting in will earn 40% extra pay. Greece is the first EU country to permit a 13-hour workday.
