A Greek Coast Guard vessel collided with a Turkish fishing boat in international waters near Çanakkale. The Turkish boat, damaged in the crash, was towed to Gökçeada by the Turkish Coast Guard.
Fisherman İlker Özdemir, known as “İlker Reis,” was fishing off the coast of Giraffe Rocks with his son, Efe Özdemir, when the incident occurred. The Greek Coast Guard struck their 12-meter boat, “Red Apple,” causing it to take on water. The Özdemirs contacted emergency services, and three Turkish Coast Guard boats were dispatched to assist.
After providing first aid to the injured father and son, the Coast Guard teams towed the damaged boat to Kaleköy Port in Gökçeada. The Turkish Coast Guard Command confirmed an ongoing investigation and emphasized their commitment to protecting Türkiye’s maritime rights and interests around the clock.
