The government’s bill that allows the establishment of private universities was protested by thousands of students in Greece, one of the few countries that have not allowed the establishment of private universities. Gathering in the capital, Athens, numerous students strongly opposed the reform in question, stating that it would cause their university degrees to lose importance and undermine the principles on which the country’s education system was built. The students shouted slogans to emphasize the importance of free education and slammed Education Minister Kyriakos Pierrakakis, one of the supporters of the controversial reform.
