Greeks protest against government after deadly train crash

After the train accident in Greece on March 1, in which 57 people, mostly students, lost their lives, a new protest was held in the capital, Athens, with the participation of about 20,000 people. The protesters held the government responsible for the accident, which was learned to have been caused by negligence, and demanded that the accident not be covered up and the government resign.

Gathering in Syntagma Square, where the parliament building is located, the protesters chanted slogans against the government and carried banners with crossed-out photographs of Prime Minister Kiryakos Mitsotakis and politicians.

Infrastructure and Transport Minister Costas Karamanlis resigned after the accident that turned out to be caused by human error.

Students and labor unions announced that a new protest would be held on March 16.
