Thousands of students at the University of Massachusetts Lowell were ordered to stay indoors after a man with a gun was spotted near a dormitory. Police launched a large-scale search but found no active shooter or evidence of gunfire.
The lockdown lasted about two and a half hours before being lifted. Authorities said they will continue security patrols on campus and surrounding areas overnight.
