Haiti Protests Escalate: Six Dead, Calls for PM’s Resignation

Protests demanding the resignation of Haitian Prime Minister Ariel Henry turned violent, resulting in six fatalities and numerous injuries. Demonstrations, primarily in the capital Port-au-Prince, erupted across the country, with tensions escalating between protesters and the police. Prime Minister Henry, who assumed office in July 2021 after the assassination of President Jovenel Moise, faced criticism for failing to hold elections as agreed upon in the 2022 accord. According to the agreement, Henry was obligated to organize elections and transfer power to newly elected officials, a commitment he did not fulfill. The prime minister, amidst the unrest, called for calm in a speech following the violent protests that have persisted since Monday.
