Heatwave Looms as Greece Fights Intensifying Forest Fires

Greece continues to battle forest fires, with 66 new fires reported across the country in the last 24 hours. While many have been extinguished due to rapid response teams, the fire west of Athens persists into its third day, and a state of emergency has been declared on Rhodes Island. International support has been provided by Italy, France, Romania, Poland, Slovakia, and Israel, following Greece’s request to the European Union Civil Protection Mechanism. Concerns are escalating as a new heat wave is predicted to start tomorrow, with temperatures possibly reaching up to 44 degrees Celsius by Friday.
