Heavy Rainfall Triggers Flooding in Northern India, 23 Soldiers Missing

Heavy rainfall in northern India’s Sikkim state, caused by a sudden cloudburst, resulted in floods due to rising Teesta River water levels. This flooding led to the disappearance of 23 soldiers when their parked military vehicles were submerged in the Bardang region. Sikkim’s Chief Minister, Prem Singh Tamang, confirmed a rescue operation is ongoing to find the missing soldiers and reported damage to military facilities and public property. Numerous bridges were also damaged, forcing the closure of a highway in the affected area.
