Heavy snow in Japan caused 99 flights to be canceled

Heavy snowfall in Japan, where under the effects of a new cold air wave, negatively affected life. The snow has been effective in different parts of the country, especially in Kanto and Tokai regions. Snow also reached 6 cm in the Kanto region as of the evening hours. Additionally, there were disruptions occurred in the transportation due to heavy snow. Japan Airlines (JAL) canceled total of 60 of its flights from Haneda Airport (Tokyo International Airport), Kumamoto Airport and Takamatsu Airport including arrivals and departures. All Nippon Airways (ANA) announced that they delayed their 39 flights, which are related with Haneda Airport, Osaka International Airport (Itami Airport) and Hiroshima Airport.

Meanwhile, the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) has issued a heavy snowfall warning for the capital city Tokyo and its neighbor Chiba Prefecture for the first time in years. Experts urged people to beware of frost risk and traffic accidents that can be caused by. Local authorities stated that the snowfall is expected to increasingly continue its effect until tomorrow morning. Local authorities told that snowfall may cause more disruptions, especially in air transportation.

On the other hand, at least 368 flights have been canceled in the last 2 weeks due to heavy snowfall that being effective in different parts of Japan since the end of December.
