Heavy snowfall affects life negatively in Japan

On Thursday, heavy snowfall that started to affect large parts of the country, especially in Japan’s capital Tokyo and its surrounding provinces and the Kanto-Koshin region, has negatively affected the life. Railroad operator Japan Railways (JR) announced that they suspended 67 services, including a limited number of express trains connecting Tokyo and Chiba to Yamanashi and Nagano, as a precaution. Also, airline companies announced the cancellation of at least 209 flights, most of them from Haneda Airport located near Tokyo.

In addition to that, planned traffic interruptions were implemented on many highways in the Kanto region as a precautionary measure. Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA), warned people that snowfall in Tokyo and its surroundings may increase its effect at night, and urged drivers to be alerted to the risk of accidents. The snow thickness reached 25 centimeters in the mountainous areas in the Nagano, Yamanashi and Shizuoka Prefectures, after the snowfall that being effective as of the morning.
