heavy snowfall disrupts transportation in Japan

Heavy snowfall occurred in many parts of Japan has disrupted all means of transportation. With hundreds of vehicles forming a 14-kilometer queue, drivers were stranded for about 8 hours in the traffic. At least 397 flights scheduled for today were also cancelled. Travels between Fukushima and Shinjo train stations on the Yamagata high-speed train line were suspended throughout the day. Transportation on the Sanyo and Tokaido high-speed train lines were carried out at low speeds and the Tohoku high-speed train line delayed their services .

The Japan Meteorological Agency announced that the cold spell will cause strong winds and heavy snowfall in many areas until Thursday. Experts urged to be prepared for further disruptions in transportation and possible power and water cuts.
