Historic Mor Ahron Monastery In Türkiye’s Elazığ

The Mor Ahron Monastery, believed to date back to the 10th century and built by Assyrians, stands atop Mount Muşar in Elazığ’s Baskil district at 1,400 meters. Surrounded by cisterns, tombs, and ruins, it preserves traces of nearly a thousand years of history.

Members of the Elazığ Mountaineering and Search and Rescue Sports Club (ELDAK) reached the site after an 8-kilometer hike, documenting the monastery and its landscape. They also visited Tomisa Castle and the Teslim Abdal Tomb, stressing the need for better protection, maintenance, and accessibility for the region’s historical landmarks.
